DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC & PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Pediatric dentistry is age specific speciality branch that believes in rendering treatment modalities by taking into account the developmental changes of children. The appropriate behaviour management strategies are applied to make dental treatment a pleasurable experience. The department provides services to patients from all socioeconomic strata and to children from infancy till their adolescence.

The positive attitude towards dental health is instilled into their minds and motivation strategies are planned for their oral hygiene maintenance.

All treatment modalities from diagnosis of a problem to complete oral rehabilitation are planned. Various forms of treatment like endodontic treatment, restorative procedures, oral prophylaxis, extractions, restoration of mutilated teeth with stainless steel crowns and anterior aesthetic restorations are done in the department. Speciality treatment like management of patients with cleft, medically compromised children, minor tooth movement, minor surgical procedures are routinely carried out in the department. Along with these therapeutic modalities, primary preventive program for prevention at various levels including space maintainers are efficiently followed up.
The department is amongst the few, which have facilities to perform dental procedures for children under general anesthesia. Our department has its own special operatory with well equipped dental unit, X-Ray machine/RVG, Boyle’s apparatus, pulse oximeter, capnometer and defibrillator. Quality treatment is rendered to children with the help of skilled anesthetists.
The department also conducts school clinic programs. Children from municipal schools from all over the city are brought to our department under the supervision of school nurses for treatment. We hope to take pediatric dentistry to a newer level by hard work to achieve excellence in the future. We hope that our goal of eradicating caries in childhood would be successfully accomplished in years to come and hope to take the department to great heights.
Apart from providing optimal oral health care to all children, the department also aims to excel in the field of research and conduct studies that can serve as a landmark for the progress and development of the dental profession as a whole.
